From the 7th-14th July Poppins will be celebrating NAIDOC Week. This year's artwork reflects the theme "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud". As part of NAIDOC Week all rooms will be working on creative pieces to reflect this theme which will then be sewn together and placed on display at Nazareth House as part of their art exhibition. Preschool 2 have been creating beautiful friendships with our friends at Nazareth House through their weekly visits.
"Where there is knowledge there are our elders". This year the Poppins community will celebrate a special NAIDOC Week which highlights the importance of Elders within our First Nations communities. We look forward to sharing the events we have planned closer to the date 2-9 July 2023.
On Friday the 23rd June we are excited to have the Rural Fire Service visit the centre to discuss fire safety, Bush fire safety and what we can to in the event of an emergency. As a bonus we also get to see the Fire Truck, hear the sirens and maybe see how the fire hose works!
Preschool 1 are excited to travel to the Pet Store on Thursday 16th February 2023 as they prepare for a new addition to their room... their Axolotl "Rainbow". The children have been preparing over the past couple of weeks. Practicing bus safety and collating a list for the pet store of what they may need to help Rainbow feel safe and happy in it's new home!

The week beginning 7th November 2022, Preschool 2 will be embarking on an exciting excursion to the Marsupial Park. This is a great natural space for observing our native wildlife in their natural environment. The Marsupial Park also has a wonderful play space for the children to challenge their skills, which was built by the Tamworth Community.
Did you notice our Poppins bus in the car park over the past few weeks? Our Preschool 1 children ventured beyond the Poppins Bush School gates to Miss Mary’s farm. We used this opportunity to continue looking at our current learning focus, exploring the world around us through STEM and Schematic play. At the farm the children met some baby calves as well as got the chance to explore the farmyard including investigating the tractor. Offering nature play stimulates creativity and problem-solving skills that are integral to executive function development.
We are so excited for Book Week this week and we have begun reading the CBCA shortlisted books to the children. We have also looked at the books which won their categories. For the Early Childhood category that was “Jetty Jumping”. A wonderful story about how it’s okay to feel worried and afraid but how it is also important to try new things, even if it’s by accident!
National Pyjama Day is back and bigger than ever! This year National Pyjama Day is on the 22nd of July. National Pyjama Day is an awesome event where you can join us in our mission to support the educational and life outcomes of kids living in foster care. And what makes it all the more fun is you can rock your favourite PJs while you do it!
NAIDOC Week celebrations are traditionally held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 'Heal country’' is the theme for NAIDOC Week 2021. 'Heal country' calls for stronger measures to recognise, protect, and maintain all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage.
